Sense of History: The Place of the Past in American Life

Join us as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Park with University of Massachusetts Professor David Glassberg. Professor Glassberg’s research concerns the history of popular historical consciousness in America as represented in politics, culture, and the environment. Co-sponsored by Massachusetts Historical Society and the Concord Free Public Library.

Barrett Farm in Park – March 30, 2009
“Barrett Farm” Federal Legislation signed (2009 Omnibus Public Lands bill) to extend the Minute Man National Historical Park boundary to include Barrett Farm and surrounding properties. The passage of this bill now allows the Park to acquire Barrett Farm. (Save Our Heritage still owns the property).

Celebration Event — You are invited!
The Park, Save Our Heritage, Congresswoman Tsongas, and other dignitaries who have supported the Barrett Farm restoration project will gather at Barrett Farm to formally announce and celebrate the incorporation of Barrett Farm into the Park. The event will include speeches, music, refreshments, and re-enactors. Please come and share in the celebrations!
Open Houses at Barrett Farm
Sunday, April 19, 10am – 3pm
Monday, April 20, 10am – 3pm
Come see the new roof and other restoration progress. Our historic architect, local blacksmith, and timber framers will also be on hand.

Volunteer Help Needed - Weekends of April 11-12 and during the week, April 15-17
Volunteers needed to help spruce up Barrett House & premises for the above events. Your help would be MOST appreciated!
Tasks include:
- Inside: thorough cleaning, lighting, and muster room ceiling removal
- Outside: raking, branch removal, tent area preparation, invasives removal, signage, safety barriers, etc.
- Setting up for the announcement and for the open houses

Anniversary Lecture Series Begins April 11

Concord Free Public Library in collaboration with The Massachusetts Historical Society on the 50th anniversary of Minute Man National Historical Park presents a series of free lectures in Concord, Boston, and Lexington. This evening’s lecture at the Main Library in Concord Center features William M. Fowler, Jr., Professor of History at Northeastern University. His lecture “A Day to be Remembered” will examine the historical significance of April 19th, 1775.
